It’s here!
The Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat special t’shirts has arrived.
Thanks Yuzeri Yusoff and Ubuntu Untuk Malaysia for yet another great collection of open sources t’shirts.
Hackerspace KL
I went to HackerspaceKL (HSKL)’s Security Meetup – UniPwned! – Hacking UniFi for the LOLZ on the 11th. I wasn’t really interested with Unifi since I won’t get the service due to different telco. I was more keen on the HSKL themselves. Wanted to check the place and join their activities. They have interesting activities like the Electronics Fridays, the Security Tuesdays and the UNIX-g33ks workshops but thanks to my laziness (I think), I have failed to do so.
SO, after much thought, plus the “geeky” soul searching, I have decided to apply for HSKL membership. The fees will be RM50 per month with minimum duration of 3 month which means, I need to pay lump sum of RM150. More details on the membership here.
The main reason for the membership is because of their UNIX-g33ks workshop. As non-members, you need to pay RM350 for the whole series (8 sessions) but free for members. So you do the math, I only pay RM150 for the 3 month membership and all activities will be free. LOL. Cheeky me. Shhh.
The other reason is because I will probably be given the opportunity to join the UNIX team for the new account in my company. Considering it as a promotion since I’ve been stuck in the Wintel/Backup team for quite some time now. It hasn’t been finalized yet. So I need to prepare myself for it. The eligible candidates will later be sent for the company trainings. At least, I will be well prepared. Currently still waiting for manager’s email.
Fingers crossed for good things to come. ;)

What’s up 2011 - Finally, the 3rd Room Project!
Let me announce that the 3rd Room Project is now in working condition.
Some changes have been made due to space limitations and such but all is well. Surprisingly, everything seemed to fits very well in the room. Got some plans to add more stuff. Most probably another monitor to add to my 14” laptop, maybe some romantic IKEA lamps (lol), dustbin (buy-list), wall rack (wish-list) and etc et cetera… Here is some pics taken with my Torchie.

AND, I have already bought a nice and affordable chair (named “VERNER”) from IKEA (above). More pics of it below.

With the home-office [the 3rd Room Project] is now in place, I have been doing a lot of soul searching lately. But in a geeky way lah. Haha.
Was planning to buy a new powerful machine specially for gaming AND transform my current ATOM MiniPC into Network-Attached Storage (NAS). But after some consideration, I have decided to postpone the project; indefinitely until I get more moolah. I’ve come to a realization that the “new machine” would be so expensive. *Sigh*
But while doing the research on NAS, I have been introduced to FreeNAS. A dedicated OS for NAS systems. Very nice. I’ll come back to that when its time. ;)
2010 is almost done?! DAYUM! Another recap.
Oh gosh. Totally forgot about this blog.
It took me awhile to readjust back ever since we came back from my home town.
The wedding was awesome! Glad the family decided to do it traditionally and doing it at our grandparents’ home town. Hopefully I can blog about it more later. Fingers crossed.
SO now, another recap. I just can’t get enough of this.
3rd Room Project: Workstation is still pending. But all the tools and ingredients are already set and GO! Well, except for the “go” part. Still hangovers from hometown. Just need the “push” to move everything into the 3rd room. Hopefully before the New Years.
I am now very much hooked with Guild Wars. Epic game! Was considering alot of F2P(free-to-play) games like Runes Of Magic, Regnum Online and loads more. Even the P2P(pay-to-play) World Of Warcraft (WoW). But Guild Wars emerged as epic winner! LOL.
Guild Wars is F2P though it’s not free entirely. You need to buy the game. Just like normal PC games. Bought the whole Trilogy (Prophecies, Factions and Nightfalls) set and the new expansion, Eye Of The North at Offgamers.com for RM82+. Will talk more on Guild Wars later in the future.
Reasons why I chose Guild Wars over all the games that I mentioned? Here’s why:
Runes Of Magic are considered the best F2P game at the moment. But it got graphics issues on my lappy. So it’s their fault for making it too complicated. LOL.
Regnum Online is ok. Playable on Ubuntu 10.10 aswell. But the graphics are kinda dated.
World Of Warcraft, the fact that it’s P2P! Can’t commit my time and money for a game. I would have restarted my Eve Online account if I do.
Got some promising F2P games like Allods Online, Battle Of The Immortals, Atlantica Online and; The Lord Of The Rings Online. But the fact that I tried Guild Wars earlier and loving it, I decided to save those for the future and concentrate on Guild Wars instead.
Notable new games in the near future; Guild Wars 2 and OilRush.
I can keep on talking about games and such but let’s save it for a dedicated post. Heh.
Lastly, a long Christmas and New Year’s holiday coming in. Will spend the Christmas eve with my brother’s family in Rawang. They will move to Kulai, Johor this weekend. Gonna miss the nephews and niece.
With that, I bid 2010 adieu. Merry Christmas everyone, and Happy New Year.
What’s up? It’s almost the end of November 2010!
December is coming soon and everything is pretty much stalled after my last update.
My sister’s wedding is just around the corner. Will be pretty much without technology for about a week or so. But hey, I’m sure it’ll be fun. Meeting families and relatives. Old and new buddies.
To sum it up on what has been happening for the last 2 to 3 weeks, I’ll just do a quick recap/review. But I might miss out a thing or two. Will definitely cover those next time.
The 3rd Room Project
The custom rack is just marvelous! It clears all the clutters and I have enough space for my workstation and/or even a guest bed.
Blackberry Torch
At long last, I’ve purchased the “Torchie” as I’m fond of calling it now. Managed to get it at DiGi Centre, Berjaya Times Square. Missed out the RM999 offer but what the heck, got a RM480 rebate as pre-registered “customer”.
-
So what’s next in December? Surely alot of planning to do. Probably the busiest month with little time to spare. Here’s so-called “For Sure” list-to-do.
Workstation, sub: The 3rd Room Project
I’m still undecided on whether to retain the old pc table and look for extension table so I can put all the stuff like switch router, KVM switch, NAS, laptops etc et cetera. OR, buy a new long table. Bleh. But a table it will be. To progress further with the room. *Sigh*
That is as RAW as I can get. Will do a proper planning for December once I’m back from my hometown.
Au Revoir. KL-MYY.
3rd Room Project ~Custom-made Rack ~Revealed
Got a phone call asking me to pick up the custom-rack that I ordered. Was psyche!
But oh boy, did I forget about top floor apartment. It was so challenging. Thought I might just climb the Mount Kinabalu after that. NOT!
So, I picked up the custom-made rack on last Saturday (06/11/10). Went to the shop and found out that there’s no available parking at its premises. So I had to park quite far away and picked up the parts, one by one, to and fro. Was already exhausted at that time. Wanted to ask some help from the shop workers but they were busy carrying some stuff to and fro a pickup that parked infront of their shop. Oh well.
Drove back and went straight to the lobby area of my apartment. Together with my lovely wife, we hauled the parts to the fourth floor. This time I was already soaking in sweats. Took a short break before started assembling the parts.
Too bad I forgot to take some pictures of the parts before assembling it. Was kinda distracted with all the sweats. Then, another torture as we tried to assemble the parts together. Alot of bickering, shouting, throwing tantrums… (ok it’s all the same). Alas, we (with wifey of course) managed to pull it off!
SO, the revelation time! The pictures of the real thing! It was before we put all the “junks” in.
Excuse the blur pictures. Captured it using my Bold 9000.

And here’s after we put all our “junks” in.

And lastly, here’s the room after the clearance.

So there ya go! First part done. Next is the workstation!!! ARrr!!!
3rd Room Project ~Custom-made Rack~The Plan

Ordered the Custom-made rack at a nearby hardware shop. Paid RM175 for it.
Pickup date is this Saturday (06/11/10).
Will be flexing my muscles to carry the unassembled rack and climb the apartment stairs.
4th floor! Tsk tsk.
The 3rd Room Project ~Intro
Was thinking hard of what to name this project.
So, there you go; The 3rd Room Project.
Why 3rd Room Project?
Well, obviously because we have 3 rooms at our apartment. First room is the master room for yours truly and wifey. The second room is the guest room which normally used by my brother when he came back from college or something. And then, there is the third room; which is the storeroom.
What project is it?
The plan is to transform this storeroom into a multipurpose room.
I’m gonna “build” a workstation where I will be doing all my “geeky” stuff there.
Will put all my computers and laptops, switches and routers, CAT5e cables and RJ45/47 and bla bla-insert-geeky-stuff here.
It is still going to be the storeroom since it’s the only space left to put all the “junks”.
So I need to properly re-organize it to give more space for the workstation. Less messy, less clutter.
Alrighty then. Need to do a to-do-list. Until then.
I’m psyche!
What’s up? It’s November 2010!
It’s been awhile since I last blogged about something.
I’m not sure whether I was busy with my life or was I succumbed to the so-called marriage-commitment-slash-work-only life.
Life is good. But probably not “happening” enough for some folks.
A little recap~
Youtube project
The fact that my (music)partner in crime went back to his hometown for good makes it completely; dead.
E-reader device
Almost bought the Barnes & Noble’s Nook but decided not to.
Wife persuades me to keep on cutting trees. :P
Accident
Recently involved in a stupid accident. Stupid enough to wreck the front of my awesome Myvi. Was Myvi-less for a month. It was delayed thanks to the confusing-slash-unsure policy of our very own Polis Trafik. Luckily managed to borrow a Kancil for temporary use.
Just got my Myvi back few days ago and since I’m such a skilled driver, I managed to ruin my left side-skirt again. A long scratch! FML!
Sister’s wedding
Lil sis is getting married this month. Can’t wait to get back to our kampung. Bought my most expensive(up-to-date) British India’s shirt, specially for the wedding. It’s a Balinese style shirt. Thought of buying a “batik” but after the wife bought a “Kebaya Nyonya” at KLCC, I was like, what the heck, lets go Balinese then. Now, probably a matching pants.
Blackberry Torch
Am thinking hard of buying the Blackberry Torch. Maxis and Celcom just launched it during the weekend. Now waiting for DiGi. Got another project in mind. Which means, more cash to burned.
So I’m not sure whether to buy now or postpone it to the “next” months.
Ubuntu 10.10
I’ve installed Ubuntu 10.10 OS/Distro on my Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop. It’s my first Ubuntu and 2nd linux distro. The first was Linux Mint dunno-what-version. It’s kinda out of the blue thing. First I was reading something about it then sent my laptop for repairs and the next thing, wallah; Ubuntu 10.10 is installed! Love it so very much that it inspires me to do my next project…
…on my next post!
Till then. Ciao!
Awesome Jap guitarist! Love the tele aswell. Not sure what’s the name of this song. But it’s the OP for an anime called Kimi ni Todoke.
